Waste Management

Integrated Waste Management is a joint effort to determine standards or specifications for waste collection containers. In MUs, waste is stored separately in different storage containers before being transported to recycling, processing, and integrated waste processing sites. There are at least three different waste containers depending on the type of waste, including biodegradable waste (organic), plastic waste, and paper waste. The three are distinguished by the color of the lid of the container: yellow for paper waste, red for plastic waste, and green for organic waste.
Universitas Negeri Malang has a recycling program organized by the campus and UKM BHUMI. First, university waste will be separated as organic and inorganic. Then by the campus, inorganic plastic bottles will be handed over to UKM BHUMI, which has a waste bank program which will then be processed and sold to third parties.
Meanwhile, organic waste is processed into compost which is then sold as the main product of UM campus. The fallen leaves around the State University of Malang were collected and cut using a leaf chopper machine, and then the leaves were chopped and composted. All faculties in UM have their composters to process leaf waste in each faculty. Toxic waste from Universitas Negeri Malang is mostly produced in Chemical Laboratories and Mechanical Engineering Workshops; toxic wastes are classified and separated by each type, then this waste is collected, partly processed by UKM BHUMI as lubricant products, and the rest is handed over to third parties.
